If we decide that an animal has too many miles on it, there is another destination--Animal shelters/rescues. When new dogs or cats come in, they are often traumatized, and huddle in corners of cages, terrified of even the people who are trying to help them. The stuffed animal can provide shelter to hide behind, softness for resting a tired head and it offers comfort that is often lacking in the steel or concrete cages. Some animals become so fond of their stuffed friends that they take them with them and they are both adopted.
We feel this works as the connections between child abuse and animal abuse are well documented. When a stuffed animal's time with humans is done, it is still able to provide comfort to another being.
